As a Living Yoga or Online Member you get access to FREE teacher workshops on a variety of topics! Our yoga instructors will present on a topic they are passionate about. These workshops are a fun educational experience that will deepen your practice and inspire you.

Respiratory Mechanics 101: Powerful Breath for Empowered Living

with Carrie Quill

The way you breathe not only impacts your yoga practice but also your daily life. There is no one better to guide us through the fundamentals of this essential bodily function than Dr. Carrie Quill! In this workshop Carrie will break down basic respiratory mechanics with a particular emphasis on the interplay between breathing and the nervous system. Dysfunctional breathing (breathing-gone-wrong) and the importance of nasal breathing will be a major focus. You’ll learn specific, simple, evidence-based breathing exercises that you can immediately apply to your life on and off the mat. The hour will conclude  with a strong, breath-driven vinyasa practice to give life to the concepts discussed during the workshop.

About Carrie: Carrie teaches yoga the way she lives her life -- with strength, dedication, focus, and lighthearted fun. She teaches the last class of the week with her Sunday 3:30pm Music-Driven Power Vinyasa and the first class of the week on Monday at 5:45am and the contrast suits her perfectly. Carrie's impressive career as a pulmonary and critical care physician at Strong offers her a unique perspective on the interplay between anatomy and human physiology in the practice of yoga. When Carrie isn’t working you can find her spending time with her husband, two kids, and their beloved Pit Bull, Blue. She loves hiking, exploring the outdoors, and cheering for the Bills!
